Munna Bhai 3 Update: Rajkumar Hirani Still Cracking the Ending as He Balances Work on 3 Idiots Sequel
Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani has shared a fresh update on the much-awaited Munna Bhai 3, revealing that the project remains in development but is yet to reach a crucial stage. While the director continues shaping the script, he is simultaneously exploring ideas for a sequel to his beloved film 3 Idiots, keeping both projects in active discussion rather than final production.
Hirani confirmed that he has been working on story ideas for both films. Speaking about the third installment in the Munna Bhai franchise, he admitted that although he has developed the concept substantially, the script still lacks a satisfying conclusion. He explained that he has not yet found the “right end” to the story — a key reason the film has not moved forward.
The director also revealed that inspiration for the 3 Idiots sequel came more recently and is still at a very early stage. According to him, the idea emerged unexpectedly and remains in development, with no confirmed timeline yet. Hirani currently has multiple scripts under consideration and will eventually decide which project to prioritize next.
Trade chatter suggests the filmmaker’s perfectionist approach is a major factor behind the delay. He has previously worked on several unfinished drafts for Munna Bhai 3, often pausing when the narrative failed to surpass expectations set by earlier films in the series. The challenge, he has indicated, is ensuring that any new installment improves upon the legacy of the originals.
While fans remain eager for official announcements, neither sequel has been formally greenlit yet. For now, both projects remain works in progress, with Hirani continuing to refine ideas before committing to production. The update has nonetheless reignited excitement among audiences hoping to see Munna and Circuit return to the big screen — even if the wait continues.
