Amazon Greenlights a New Stargate Series — Martin Gero to Lead as Showrunner
Amazon MGM Studios has officially given the go-ahead for a brand-new Stargate TV series, which will stream exclusively on Prime Video.
Creative Team & Legacy
- Martin Gero, who worked on Stargate: Atlantis and other Stargate series, will be the show’s creator, showrunner, and executive producer.
- Executive producers include Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell (Safehouse Pictures), as well as original Stargate film creators Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich.
- Stargate veterans Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi will return as consulting producers.
What This New Series Will Be
- According to Gero, this is not a reboot. Instead, it’s a “brand new chapter” in the Stargate universe — meant to build on the existing continuity.
- The goal is to make the show accessible for both longtime fans and newcomers, allowing people to start with the new series without needing extensive knowledge of the previous shows.
- The series will be available in more than 240 countries and territories, thanks to Prime Video’s global reach.
Gero’s Connection to Stargate
Gero shared that working on Stargate was pivotal for his career:
“Twenty years ago, my first real job in television was as a story editor on Stargate: Atlantis. I spent five years at the franchise … Stargate taught me everything about making television — it’s written into my DNA.”
He expressed his gratitude to Amazon for trusting him with this “next phase” of the franchise.
What’s Still Unknown
The production timeline, number of episodes, and release date are not publicly confirmed at this time.
Amazon has not yet released plot details or casting information for the series.
